That’s Merry Kiwi Christmas–otherwise known as Christmas Eve for you in the Western Hemisphere! We are a day ahead down here, so Andy and I celebrated today with some friends in Plimmerton, a small beach town on the North Island.
This morning, I gifted myself with a perfect 2 hour run. I spent the first hour of it charging along the beach into the most blustery headwind I’ve experienced outside of Hawaii. I can imagine that sensation could get quite tiresome, but today, the sun was beaming down, my legs felt great, and I was loving it!
For the return trip, I decided against the free ride home and cut inland. I found myself running up into the hills along beautiful wooded trails that the Maori once used to walk to get from one bay to the other. Dropping back down the coast for the final mile or so home, the wind was at my back, and I felt as though my feet were hardly touching the ground. Arms and legs pumping as fast as they could go, lungs burning, I sprinted the last few hundred meters of a run that I just didn’t want to end.
I couldn’t have asked for a better present. Hope Santa brings you something just as fabulous!
